High Cleverhood Quotient Reflects Washington DC’s Livable Qualities

Capital Bikeshare, mobility for all

PROVIDENCE  – Cleverhood, the Rhode Island company with the unique outerwear for livable cities, is hitting the streets of Washington, DC once again. Although the Nation’s Capital continues to lead the US in traffic congestion, it also has a combination of urban qualities that has made it one of Cleverhood’s top markets in the world. Plus D.C. has higher annual rainfall than Seattle.

The term “livable cities” first emerged in the 1980s to describe quality of life. Today there are complicated evaluations and surveys done by the Economist, Monocle and Mercer Consulting. But the Cleverhood Quotient is a simple measurement of an urban environment’s health and happiness that correlates to its quality of open spaces, cultural amenities, walkability, bike access and rain-or-shine attitude. This is not an ordinary rain cape.

“If you’re familiar with D.C.’s notorious gridlock you might see its high Cleverhood quotient as an anomaly,” said Susan Mocarski, Cleverhood creator. “However, this city was first in the US to roll out a bike-share system; it has 1 museum per 3,100 people, diverse neighborhoods and a distinctive style. On top of that, the D.C. public school system has committed to teach every second-grader how to ride a bicycle. This is not an ordinary city.”

Washington-area residents will be able to personally consider their Cleverhood Quotient on October 17 and 18 at the American Field pop-up market. The Rhode Island Company, together with a variety of other hand-crafted US-made products, will demonstrate its stylish, bike-ready rain capes and apparel at the Georgetown Park location. Additional visits are planned to Bicycle Space, Thai Taste in Adams Morgan and the Capital Bikeshare depot.
