We LOVE Bike New York and have for many years and will happily support them for a hundred more. Bike New York empowers people to transform their lives and communities through biking. Known to New Yorkers for their hugely popular and awe inspiring TD Five Boro Bike Tour and their free bike education programs but they do so much more.
Recycle-A-Bicycle program reconditions salvaged bicycles and sells them at affordable prices to the community. They have diverted over 45,000 lbs of bikes destined for the landfill.
Bike Path is a workforce development program that provides formerly incarcerated and justice-involved New Yorkers with bike mechanic skills through a five-week training program. Once completed, all graduates interview to maintain the CitiBike fleet as mechanics.
Bicycles for Asylum Seekers Donation Program started this year providing access to the services that help them get settled and acclimated in their new homes. With refurbished bikes from Recycle-A-Bicycle, donated helmets, locks, and lights asylum seekers are given affordable transportation.
